Judaism

Judaism is the religion of Jews. Judaism comes from the Greek Ioudaismos, derived from the Hebrew and Yehudah. There are currently about eight-teen million Jews throughout the world. They are mainly concentrated in North America estimating about seven million and 4.5 million in Israel.
Judaism is a monotheistic religion based on principles and ethics embodied in Hebrew Bible known as the Tanakh or Talmud. Judaism is one of the oldest religious traditions still being practiced till today. The principles of Judaism have had an influence in other religions such as Islam and Christianity.
Judaism began with the covenant between God and Abraham. Throughout the culture of Judaism many principles were developed and established. The most important and sacred one has been known to be the belief in a single God who created the universe and continues to govern it. Many Jews believe that God established a covenant with the Israelites and their descendants and revealed his laws and commandments to Mose on Mount Sinai in the form of the Written and Oral Torah.
Throughout the development of Judaism many Jews have suffered slavery, anarchic, self-government, conquest and exile. The most controversy act that occurred to Jews was the Holocaust. The Holocaust was an act that was developed by the Germans who mostly were known as the Nazi’s. The Nazi’s were a group of people throughout Germany who were known for their discrimination, corruption and power. The Nazi’s were able to control and gain power throughout Israel capturing Jews and realizing them into concentration camps. Were they would either be used for labor or put to death due to their weak abilities. Throughout this period of time many Jews were prosecuted and abused. Many women, men and children were killed for the simple reason of being a Jew who followed Judaism and considered being part of a minority.
Till this day many Jews still believe in the main principles developed known as:
1.God exist
2.God is one and unique
3.God is incorporeal
4.God is eternal
5.Prayer is to be directed to God alone and no other
6.the word of prophets are true
7.Moses was the greatest of the prophets and his prophecies are true
8.the Written Torah and Oral Torah were given to Moses
9.there will be no other Torah
10.God knows the thoughts and deeds of men
11.God will reward the good and punish the wicked
12.the messiah will come
13.the dead will be resurrected
Many believe that Jews are God’s chosen people. This implies that God has selected Israel to receive the study of the Torah, to worship him and only him, to rest on the weekly Sabbath, and to celebrate the festivals. This doesn’t mean that Jews are superior to other groups it just implies what is stated in the Jewish Bible (Exodus 19:5). It also explains the importance of a boy reaching his Bar Mitzvah on their thirteen birthday and girls reaching their Bat Mitzvah in their12irthday. The celebrations of these specific birthdays are to imply teens adulthood and show their responsibility to follow the Jewish commandments and laws.
Therefore there are many truly Jews in this world but throughout this culture Judaism has also developed new thinkers and believers. Some Jews view God as a great moral teacher while others view him as a false prophet or as an idol of Christianity. Some Jews will not even say his name due to the prohibition against saying an idol’s name.
Judaism affirms the inherent goodness of the world and the people in it as creations of God. Jewish believer are able to sanctify their lives and draw closer to God by performing his “divine commandments.”

You offer a very detailed background discussion, Jennifer. Don't forget to include reference links when appropriate.

Also, since the lens you're asked to take here is one of rhetoric, I'll ask you: how do language and one's religion (in this case Judaism) relate to one another. Remember to always bring it back to language.

Jennifer,

Where do you get your information from, the internet? it looks like you get your information from the internet or from another source. wherever you get your information, it is really reliable. how long has judiasm been practiced? Do you think that when the jews were in internment camps they practiced their religion praying that they were going to be saved?

This post provides the most detailed information you could have given about this specific religion. I did not know anything about it, i am truly amazed of its background and their beliefs. Through your whole explanation you forgot to mention how does this religion bond with rhetoric. Rhetoric being the effective way of speaking or writting to persuade. How does the religion in maybe its writting through oral or biblical use its language to persuade that everything they say is true and not something false. Overall good job just remember that your writting about rhetoric and not just the religion.
Thank You
our tall friend,
Hernan

Hey Jenny,
WOW! this has to be one of the most detailed explanations that I have ever seen you give. You fully explained what Judaism means. When you typed the list of Jewish beliefs did you see some similarities to catholic beliefs. Like the belief that god exist or that there is only one and unique god. Do you think that some beliefs that religions have may have come from other religions. Yeah it's true that the worst episode that jewish people went through was the Holocaust. I mean that was really sad because millions of innocent jews died by torture.

Even though Ms. Vernon said that your blog is really just based on finding rhetoric in cultural language, I think it would be best if you change your subject and let it be this one instead. Because it seems that you're having an easier time talking about religions. But maybe try finding all the rhetoric that each religion has. Great job and I really want to hear how you define Catholicism

Dear Jennifer,
I think that this blog did give lots of information about Judaism. I agree with vincent and hernan that you forgot to mention how rhetoric applies here and that religion should be a good topic for you. You seem to know a lot about religion and it seems to interests you more. I think that doing your blog based on religion will make it better for you.

Dear Jenny,
From reading your blog not only was I interested, but I learn some thing tbat I didn't know about Jews. I learned about the different parts of their religion like the Written and Oral Torah. We know that Jews suffered a lot in Germany because of the Nazi's, but why do you think they were treated so badly?

Dear Jennifer,
Your blog really interested me because one of my teachers is married to Judaism. And, I know that when a man and a woman get married and the man isn’t Judaism and she is, their children are become Judaism because they believe that the woman is the one that passes down the religion. When you mentioned that, “Some Jews view God as a great moral teacher while others view him as a false prophet or as an idol of Christianity.” I got confused because I don’t know if it’s true, on what I have heard, but I thought that it was Jesus that Judaism believed that he was just a philosopher, while Christianity just believed he was an idol. I don’t know if I’m right, but I thought it was that way, can you please clarify it for me.
Sincerely,
Masyeli M.
